I tried to create two shortcuts in “System Prefs > Keyboard > Shortcuts > App Shortcuts”. So, what did I do? Come to the conclusion that I must have done something wrong and therefore tried the exact same shortcut again? Of course I did! Then what? Did I google “cmd+i italic Safari” and read the Apple community post “ Command+i keeps linking the page to mail instead italics”? Of course I did! But now it’s all of a sudden been replaced by a function I’ve never even used (if I want to share a URL in an email, the simple copy-paste approach is good enough). It’s like it’s written into the very DNA of computers. I stared in disbelief - and discontent, I should add - as I tried to make a string of words italic and instead was directed to my default mail app (which happens to be Newton) with a new email draft created.ĭuring my entire life on the internet, ⌘+i (ctrl+i on non-Mac computers) has been the shortcut for making text italic. Until I ran into the worst and most frustrating quirk I’ve ever encountered: It was such a relief! Cleaner interface, better performance, no funky behaviour. A little while ago, I concluded that Safari had now amassed enough extensions to finally do the switch from Chrome (which also coincided with the fact that Chrome had started to show an increasingly buggy behaviour, opening new tabs when not supposed to and other weird things, most likely due to some broken extension/s affecting the overall browser experience).
And when it comes to extensions, Safari is pretty far behind. The reason is quite simple: I have depended on the vast number of extensions in Chrome that aren’t available in other browsers. I believe it’s become somewhat bloated and user unfriendly, and it’s like the Covid-19 of a computer, draining all its energy and will to live.īeing something of a browser connaisseur (it’s perfectly fine to mock me, I’m a nerd and I know it 🤓), I’ve fallen in love with Opera Neon and Vivaldi and Blisk and Sizzy, but I’ve always used them in different situations never as my primary browser. The thing is that I’m not particularly fond of Chrome. If I ever create my own browser (ain’t ever gonna happen) I’m going to name it Brauser.
